5 Fun Ways to Enjoy a Rainy Day

You know the old saying—April showers bring May flowers. Sure, warm afternoons are always prone to a sprinkle or two. But that doesn’t have to put a damper on your day!

When you’re in need of some rainy-day inspiration, we’ve got you covered! Read on as we share our five favorite ways to enjoy your day to the fullest.

Visit a local museum

Florida is called the Sunshine State—but we definitely see our fair share of showers throughout the year, especially in these warmer months! But even if you’re not soaking up the sun, there are plenty of great ways to immerse yourself in local culture and history. One of our favorites? Visiting a local museum! There’s truly something for everyone. History buffs will enjoy destinations like Tallahassee’s Museum of Florida History, or the one-of-a-kind Pirate & Treasure Museum in St. Augustine. If you love science, check out the Orlando Science Center or Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet, which offers you and your family an up-close look at local marine life.

Watch a movie

Nothing beats a good movie on a rainy afternoon! If your day in the sand turns into a downpour, local theaters have you covered—Daytona Beach goers, especially, are just steps away from the theater at the Ocean Walk Shoppes. Enjoy your movie and plenty of popcorn and the weather might just be better when you’re all done!

A movie day at home is another great way to enjoy your rainy afternoon. You can cook up some popcorn on the stovetop, cover your living room with comfy pillows and blankets, and relax the day away.

Stay outdoors…

… safely, of course!

If there’s no thunder or lightning, and you’re simply experiencing a sudden sun shower or sprinkle, there’s no harm in staying outdoors and enjoying the rain (which, on hot spring days, can actually be pretty refreshing!). Plus, if you’re at a popular outdoor spot such as the beach, you might find that sticking out the shower lets you enjoy a relaxing, roomy experience as your fellow beachgoers head back inland.

Try out a new recipe

Looking for a cozy, lazy afternoon to complement the patter of rain outside? Try out a new recipe! The whole family can work together to whip up something special. Anything is fair game—but warm, soothing treats like chocolate chip cookies or a hearty stew are especially easy to enjoy during this kind of weather!

Enjoy Peach Valley comfort foods

Speaking of warm-and-cozy picks—we’ve got you covered in that department! If the rain catches you by surprise on your day out, or you simply want to treat yourself to some comfort food goodness, make a trip to Peach Valley. A delicious meal (plus no mess to clean up later!) is a tried-and-true solution to soggy days. Here are just a few of our favorite dishes to enjoy…

  • Soup of the Day or Chili. What is it about rainy days that makes us crave warm, comforting classics? We’re not quite sure, but we know that these dishes deliver a dose of relaxation with every spoonful.
  • Chicken Pot Pie. Another comfort food classic, this hearty favorite—made with tender white chicken, carrots, onions, mushrooms and peas in a velvety supreme sauce—is sure to please on cloudy days.
  • This breakfast staple is warm, simple and oh-so-satisfying, perfect for enjoying on busy mornings as well as breezy weekend brunches.
