7 Easy Ways to Simplify At-Home Entertaining

Post-meal cleanup? At Peach Valley Café, don’t lift a finger—we’ve got you covered!

Of course, we can’t be there for your pool parties and at-home get togethers… but we can offer you some advice on how to play host with ease. Take a look at today’s blog to learn our top seven tips!

Start with the right food

The right food provides the foundation to any sort of at-home get together. Know your crowd and know your menu. While we all love beautiful full-course dinners, laid out with all the trimmings, there’s something to be said about the simplicity of a more casual, buffet-style dinner setting, especially in the summer.

With that being said, you’ll most likely want to opt for entrees that can be served onto plates (think salads, pastas, sandwiches, etc.) and dressed up with sides of your guests’ choosing. Carve out some room on your dining room table or kitchen island for serving bowls and spoons, so that guests can easily come for seconds.

If the food aspect of your get-together is overwhelming, don’t be afraid to delegate! That might mean turning your party into a potluck, with friends and family members bringing their own favorite items, or even enlisting the help of Peach Valley’s catering services.

Clean as you go

As host, you want to provide as clean and neat a space as possible—but that doesn’t mean you have to spend time away from your guests to do it! Make it a mission to clean as you go. You can use a big mixing bowl as a scraps container, for example, so that you don’t need to keep opening and closing your garbage can as you prep. Whenever you leave the room to check on dinner or refill a glass, bring an empty plate or two back with you. It eliminates the need for a larger-scale cleanup process later on.

Fine-tune for friends and family

The best part about playing host is getting the chance to fine-tune a great experience for friends and family. Use little details to make the party extra special—remembering that your cousin loves extra croutons, for example, or stocking up on a soda your visiting family members can’t find back home. The end result? A truly memorable experience that feels like a party made just for them.

You can never have too many of…

Know the things you can never have too many of—you’ll thank yourself later! A few such staples include napkins, kitchen towels, and (if you’re a whiz in the kitchen) the bite-size desserts you might be famous for.

Have a contingency plan in place

Having a backup spot for your party is always helpful, especially if you plan to entertain outdoors. Florida’s famously fickle weather doesn’t have to derail your plans if you’ve already cleared out your dining room for a backup entertaining space!

Opt for no-fuss décor

While it may seem counterintuitive, the last thing you need to be worrying about as a host (especially for those laidback summer parties) is elaborate décor. While small touches can be nice, some—like big, busy centerpieces—take up more space and time than they’re worth.

Have your party… and enjoy it, too

Finally, don’t forget to enjoy your party along the way! A good host always makes time to mingle, share a laugh, and enjoy the meal they’ve worked so hard to put together. While it’s always nice to be accommodating, it’s okay to save some last-minute tasks for later on. You’ve earned it!
