Dive into Bagelfest with Peach Valley Café

Ah, the bagel. It’s the champion of the breakfast table, a hearty treat that pairs well with everything from smoked meats to velvety cream cheese.

In honor of Bagelfest on July 26th, we’re taking a closer look at the ins and outs of bagels, as well as a delicious way to enjoy them at Peach Valley Café. Just keep reading!

A long, delicious history

Bagels have a past that extends long before they lined store shelves, or were served up in your favorite restaurant. In fact, while it’s difficult to pinpoint an exact origin date, we know from records that they were enjoyed in Eastern Europe as far back as the early 1600s—making them older than America itself! The basic aspects of a bagel were (and continue to be) a yeasted dough that is boiled before being baked to perfection.

Since the bagel has a similar appearance to another holed breakfast treat, you may be wondering… which came first, the bagel or the doughnut? As it turns out, the hole design of the bagel has been used for centuries and likely inspired similarly-structured doughnuts. The hole makes for a more even baking process and would help bakers sell, move and display several bagels at once with the help of a string.

Bagels in orbit

Not many foods have made it into orbit—but the bagel is one who can proudly flaunt that honor! Astronaut Greg Chamitoff brought bagels from his aunt’s bakery to space with him in 2008. We’re guessing that he, much like ourselves, could not go long without the scrumptious breakfast staple.

Our take on the New York treat

At Peach Valley Café, we love a good bagel—and know that you do, too. That’s why we so carefully crafted our Smoked Salmon and New York Style Bagel. The New York touch means that the bagel is extra soft, doughy and delicious, while the smoked salmon pairs wonderfully with capers, red onions, diced eggs and, of course, cream cheese spread for a wholesome breakfast you’ll want to enjoy again and again.

For breakfast, lunch, or a quick afternoon snack, nothing beats the simplicity of a good bagel. Come on in to Peach Valley Café to enjoy one topped with all the fixings!

At Peach Valley, we're passionate about serving fresh, home style meals you and your family will love. Experience the freshness today! Find a Location near you and be sure to Sign Up for our E-Club for news, updates and special offers.
