Falling for Fall in Ormond Beach

Falling for Fall in Ormond Beach

Cool weather, clear skies, endless opportunities for family fun—the best fall days are ahead, and we can’t wait to swing into the seasonal spirit. Read on as we share a few of our favorite ways to enjoy fall in and around Ormond Beach, plus easy activities to try at home, too. Take a look.

Craft a delicious meal

Fall is all about soothing flavors and comfort food classics—especially during the lead-up to Thanksgiving as we start daydreaming about creamy mashed potatoes and mom’s good-old-fashioned pie. But you don’t need to wait for Turkey Day to put together a delicious meal. Invite some friends over for a casual dinner get-together—you can even make it a potluck! Bring the fun outdoors if the weather is good, and indulge in dishes that highlight harvest flavors for a true seasonal treat.

Go fresh, al fresco

Do you need some fresh ingredients for that delicious meal? Wow your friends and family—and your own taste buds—by opting for fresh produce from local farms and farmers markets! From Ormond Beach, you’re not too far from some of the western u-pick farms that call Volusia County “home.” You can also visit venues like the Ormond Beach Farmers Market, held at the City Hall Plaza on Beach Street every Thursday. It’s a doubly rewarding activity, picking out produce outdoors, since you’re getting the ingredients you need while enjoying some fresh air and a bright, vibrant environment, too!

Learn about local history

This time of year, we often reflect on traditions like apple picking or visiting the pumpkin patch—as well as the history of time-honored holidays like Thanksgiving, and the Pilgrims and the local Wampanoag who attended that first holiday feast. Our slice of the Sunshine State is also home to a wealth of history worth learning about! For example, did you know that the Timucuan Tribe called the Tomoka River and Halifax River region “home” in the 1500s? Or that even earlier—thousands of years earlier, in fact—native residents built mounds here, and dined on clams and oysters back when the Halifax River was simple a shallow stream? Knowing the history behind your familiar stomping grounds will help you rediscover your surroundings and walk in living history!

Host a backyard bonfire

The swimming pool may star as the center of summer gatherings—but during fall and winter, on those pleasantly cool evenings, bonfires are the way to go. Throw a safe backyard bonfire using an outdoor pit, invite some friends, and serve up seasonal classics like hot cocoa and s’mores for a truly enjoyable evening.

Enjoy quality time outdoors

Another great way to enjoy the outdoors is to explore the local area! Ormond Beach’s Central Park is a choice spot for surrounding yourself with nature, as are the riverfront digs of Tomoka State Park. Their lush, tree-lined paths are perfect for enjoying a walk in nature, or stopping for a scenic picnic—and the best part? You can often spot subtly changing colors in the trees, too, perfect for those days when you want to embrace all things “fall.”

Wherever your fall activities may bring you, Peach Valley Ormond - West is here to serve as your fuel-up spot for delicious flavors and warm company all season long (and beyond!).
