Crisp fall weather calls for outdoor fun! Here in Heathrow, there are plenty of options to enjoy—and one of our favorites just happens to be Rock Springs Run State Reserve. Read on as we take a virtual tour of this pristine natural escape, filled with activities for every type of outdoor adventurer.
Hike, bike and enjoy the view
When you want to immerse yourself in nature, Rock Springs Run’s 15 miles of multipurpose trails have you covered. They welcome hikers, bikers and sightseers of all experience levels to see the environment in an entirely new way. Here, you’ll feel as though you have stumbled upon a tropical oasis, largely untouched by life outside (even though—and you’d never know it—you’re never too far from your favorite Central Florida attractions).
As you move along and enjoy the invigorating fresh air—which feels that much better on a crisp fall day—you’ll be treated to stunning natural views and, of course, the occasional wildlife sighting. Sandhill cranes, gopher tortoises, indigo snakes and even Florida black bears call the area “home.” From time to time, you’ll approach bright, tree-lined clearings that offer an expansive view of the sparkling waterscapes that give Rock Run its name.
Enjoy accommodations under the stars
The park closes at sundown, except for those who choose to enjoy accommodations under the stars! For those who can’t get enough time out in nature, you can settle in at one of the reserve’s primitive campsites for a truly one-of-a-kind experience. There are few places where you can truly disconnect and discover the quieter side of life in the Sunshine State, and luckily for us, this just happens to be one of them!
Bring your four-legged friends, too
For animal lovers, one of the best parts of Rock Springs Run State Reserve is the ability to bring your four-legged friend along for the fun! Being able to enjoy a walk or jog with your leashed pet is a great way to make the experience that much more memorable. That quality time extends to other kinds of pets, too, including hooved ones! That’s right. You can even bring your horse to Rock Springs for a leisurely ride through the park or primate horse camping with stalls, corrals and posts for tethers for your convenience. There’s no limit to the ways you and your best friend can explore this natural escape!
Experience the water in an all-new way
Rent a canoe or kayak and jump on the water to experience your surroundings from a fresh perspective! Plus, at the southern tip of Rock Springs Run sits Wekiva Island, an on-the-water playground of sorts where you can kick back, relax, go swimming or even play some volleyball. It’s a great way to cap off your time exploring nature, a place to reconnect with friends and share tales of your adventure outdoors.
Planning a big day at Rock Springs Run? Fuel your day of biking, hiking or enjoying the view with a hearty brunch at Peach Valley Heathrow—we’ve got you covered with everything you need to enjoy the adventure ahead.
