Looking for a new way to get the group together? Here’s one of our up-and-coming favorites: an at-home painting party!
These days, the artful activity du jour is a fun spin on good-old art class. Many destinations offer “paint-and-sip” classes where the crew gets together to enjoy drinks, hors d'oeuvres and, of course, fun with paint!
It’s a popular pastime… but you don’t need to travel far to enjoy the fun of food, friends, and painting. Hosting this sort of get-together at home is an easy option—giving your friends a chance to gather in a comfortable setting, and savor those lingering trails of conversation long after the paint is dried and the vino all gone.
Just read on as we share our top tips for hosting the perfect painting party!
Aim for inspiration
It’s hard not to feel inspired when surrounded by loved ones, painting the day away—still, there are a few things you can do to help the creative juices get flowing. One of them is to create a beautiful focal point—perhaps even something you’ll want to recreate in your painting! It can be a central window with a view of the pool or a gorgeous tree, or even a still-life classic: a colorful bowl of fruit!
Curate a painting playlist
Another great way to help inspiration strike? Curate a painting playlist! Depending on the crowd, your song selection might look like oldies, zen instrumentals, pop music or a timeless classic that conveys an artsy feel: jazz! Either way, the background music is sure to help the painting fun continue.
Craft the perfect workspace
You’ll want to create a workspace that’s practical, too—a place where you can feel free to get a little messy without worrying about staining your favorite sofa or antique coffee table. Lay out towels or tarp so you can paint, carefree. You can even take the fun outside, where a simple hose-down later on will make cleanup a breeze. Here, sounds of moving water or perhaps your wind chimes will create an even more immersive environment.
Opt for finger foods and easy bites…
Of course, we can’t forget about the menu! When it comes to food, in lieu of fork-and-knife entrees, you’ll want to assemble a spread of finger foods—the kind of bites that can be enjoyed with one hand, while the other creates fanciful designs on canvas.
Peach Valley catering can help with this part of the fun! You can order up a batch of your favorite wraps—say, Chicken Salad, Club or Veggie—and cut them into even smaller pieces so that they can be enjoyed as hors d'oeuvres as you paint. Another classic option would be fruits or a delicious Caesar Salad that can be enjoyed with a fork—again, leaving one hand free for the sake of the art. If this sort of painting activity takes you back to those good old days of childhood, you can’t go wrong by capping the night off with a simple, sweet classic, a platter of our Fresh Gourmet Cookies.
… and work-of-art drinks
Now, finally, for the drinks. You’ll want refreshments that are as pretty as the paintings themselves, so be sure to pick out beautiful glassware as well. Our top pick would be a get-together classic, effervescent mimosas served up in dainty champagne flutes. We’ll make it even easier—pick out some chilled Florida Valencia Orange Juice from our catering menu, then pair each glass with a splash of bubbly for an easy two-step treat your guests will love.
We hope that these tips help you put together a painting party your crew truly loves. By the end of the day, you’ll have enjoyed some great treats—and will each have a special keepsake of the event for years to come!
