Spicing Up Your Home This Fall

Fall is finally here! The leaves may not be quick to fall here in Florida, of course, but that doesn’t mean you have to forego the crisp, cozy feeling of the season in your home.

In fact, at this time of year, seasonal produce is good for more than eating—it can help you bring a sense of autumn into your space! Do-it-yourself scent mixes can be simmered on the stove for hours at a time, creating a warm, earthy atmosphere in your home. See how to make this DIY delight in today’s blog!

Choose your aroma

First things first, you’ll want to choose the scent profile you’re going for. Imagine that you’re in the candle shop, searching for your ideal aroma. Do you traditionally opt for nature-inspired scents, ones that you might smell while walking through a woodsy path, or are you more likely to pick out scents that come from the kitchen: cookies, pies, and other baked goods?

The scent you choose is up to you! Because this (thankfully) isn’t an exact science, you can mix and match ingredients to create custom scents that linger. For a fall apple orchard-inspired aroma, you can use apple peels, cinnamon sticks, and orange rinds. For a scent that reminds you of Grandma’s kitchen or even your favorite Peach Valley desserts, incorporating some vanilla extract will do the trick.

Start with scraps

You, of course, don’t need to rush out to pick up these ingredients… in fact, you probably already have them on hand! You can breathe new life into scraps from yesterday’s baking adventures or your lunch date out by incorporating them into this easy, effortless creation.

Fill a saucepan with water and your ingredients—then enjoy

You’ll want to next add all of these ingredients to a saucepan, but not before filling it with some water! Adding water gives your ingredients the chance to shine, infusing the liquid with their aromatic flavors. Plus, you can add water throughout the day to keep the scents going. Just simmer, kick back, and refill as it evaporates. You’ll start smelling the reward in no time.

This is a handy way to get more out of your produce and spice rack… and it transports you to a warm, ethereal fall escape in minutes!
