Top Five Ways to Get in the Halloween Spirit

Halloween is just around the corner, and who says the fun has to be only for the kids? Here are some sure-fire ways the whole family can get in a frightfully festive mood this October – including a trip to your favorite Floridian breakfast restaurant, Peach Valley Café!

  1. Carve a Jack-o-Lantern

Pumpkin carving is not just for the little ones – but if you’re in the mood, you can invite your kids and grandkids to join you. Pumpkins are inexpensive and readily available at your grocery store or local farmstand (even better if you can visit a pumpkin patch!). Keep your carving simple with a classic jack-o’-lantern face or get elaborate by checking out the intricate design ideas online. Spread out newspapers, get a black marker to outline your ideas, and then carve away. Be sure to save the seeds! Rinse them, toss them with olive oil, sprinkle them with sea salt and roast them at a low temperature in your oven. It makes a delicious bonus treat to compliment your new carving tradition.

  1. Host a Scary Movie Night

Choose a movie (or two) that will make you shiver. You can start with family-friendly Halloween classics like It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Casper, Coraline, Beetlejuice or Ghostbusters until the kids go to sleep. Pop some popcorn, heat up some apple cider, and enjoy your favorite spooky movie.

  1. Read a Ghost Story

There’s nothing like reading or listening to a spooky story at Halloween. Remember The Legend of Sleepy Hollow? Everyone enjoys hearing ghost stories, from young to old. If you read to your children, swap out their usual bedtime story with a slightly spookier choice. For adults, replace your audio book with a mystery like Rebecca or a great horror classic like Frankenstein. For even more family fun, dim the lights, light a candle (or sit around a campfire), and take turn reading a haunted tale out loud.

  1. Enjoy Pumpkin-flavored Treats

Some things just taste like Halloween and are sure to get you in the spirit. If candy corn isn’t quite your thing, try adding pumpkin flavoring to your pancakes! You don’t even have to do the cooking yourself – your favorite breakfast restaurant is here to help. Stop by Peach Valley Café for our seasonal offerings that will make your Halloween extra flavorful. We’re featuring Pumpkin Pancakes (featuring delicious pumpkin pie filling and powdered sugar) and Harvest Pancakes (with dried cranberries, crunchy pecans, and sweet white chocolate chips in a pumpkin pancake base).

  1. Wear a Costume All Day Long

Costumes aren’t just for kids, and you don’t have to wear them just on Halloween. Make someone smile by sporting your Elvis wig or witch’s hat to the office or at the drive-through pick-up lane. Rock your festive Halloween look with orange and black colored nail polish. Not that brave? What about Halloween themed socks? Show your spirit in big ways and small.

No matter how you choose to celebrate Halloween, Peach Valley is here to help! We are a delicious and festive breakfast restaurant choice to fuel you before or after all of your favorite Halloween activities, from trick-or-treating events to exploring Volusia County’s haunted spots.
