We’re Falling for Fun! How to Celebrate the Season in Florida

Can’t wait for fall fun? Then don’t! Sure, Florida may never be the “leaf-peeping capital of the world,” but there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the season right here at home. Just read on as we share a few of our favorites.

Fuel up with fall flavors

Fall is all about the senses—so even if you can’t feel it outdoors, you can certainly taste it indoors!

This season revolves around comfort food flavors (the kind that pair perfectly with a day of playing in the leaves or driving past scenic foliage), such as Chicken Pot Pie or a hearty sandwich, like a classic Reuben. It’s also about warm, decadent harvest-like flavors, such as those found in our Blueberry Pancakes or Orchard Fresh Apple Fritters! There are many ways to indulge your fall cravings—whatever you choose, your dish will transport you to an autumnal escape with every delicious bite.

Sip on something sweet

Don’t forget about seasonal drinks, too! While sweet picks like Cranberry Juice or our Caffe Latte are available all year long, their familiar flavors feel especially appropriate during the fall season.

Warm up to an autumnal aroma

We said fall was all about the senses, right? This includes your sense of smell, too! Treat yourself to a soothing autumnal aroma by simmering apple cores, orange rinds, cinnamon and other fall spices with water on the stovetop. In minutes, the scent of fall will waft through your home and soothe your soul with all the allure of the harvest. You can even turn this DIY into a sweet host gift for fall events!

Pick a pumpkin

It doesn’t get much more “fall” than pumpkin picking! Many patches are opening up at this time of year, so find one near you, grab a few friends, and be sure to snap plenty of fun photos along the way!

Plan a manatee adventure

For much of the country, fall means taking scenic drives to soak in beautiful foliage. For us Floridians, the arrival of cooler weather means a chance to see manatees in action! In a couple of months (typically around November or so), manatees will be more present than ever in Sunshine State waters as they try to avoid cooler weather up north. Now is a great time to plan a day trip to see these gentle giants in action around you!

Have a movie marathon

Enjoy a day indoors with family and friends, and see some of your favorite fall movies! These might be Halloween flicks or simply films that remind you of the season—“When Harry Met Sally…” is one such movie, featuring plenty of beautiful NYC fall scenes to enjoy. Back-to-school flicks are another natural choice at this time of year, as are many of Wes Anderson’s movies, which are often known for their warm, cozy, autumn-esque color palette.

Bake up fall fun

No great movie marathon is complete without snacks! As you enjoy the action on-screen, bake delicious treats to go along with the fun—think good-old-fashioned snickerdoodles, pumpkin granola bars, homemade seasonal lattes and other sweet treats.

Visit your local farmer’s market

Fall often means a return to farmer’s markets in Florida—and with fresh produce to enjoy, warm, cozy flavors swirling through the air, and (hopefully) slightly cooler weather to soak in, now is a great time to head outdoors and enjoy one near you.

Decorate your space for fall

As we switch into fall, a few simple changes and decorative flourishes can really dress up your space for the occasion. Swap your current centerpiece for a display of pine cones and leaves; add layers of cozy throws to your sofa; or spend some time with the kids on a fall craft, like handprint “leaves” which you can frame for a meaningful masterpiece.

Soak up some sun at the beach

While visiting the beach may not be the quintessential fall activity, now is actually a great time for Floridians to hit the shore! Summer crowds are a little thinner, and you can enjoy more space in the sand without being cold. It’s the best of both worlds, and a great way to take advantage of your unique location—although beach days as most of the country experiences cooler and cooler weather do run the risk of making your friends across the country a little jealous!

We hope that these ideas inspire you to enjoy the fall season ahead! Wherever your autumnal adventures may take you, be sure to stop by your home base here at Peach Valley for the delicious, flavorful fuel you need to keep up the fun.
